Sangiorgi Giorgio

Giorgio Sangiorgi was born in Massalombarda, in the province of Ravenna, Italy. He studies at the “Istituto d’Arte di Faenza” (Faenza Art Institut). From the late 70s studies at the “Scuola d’Arte e Mestieri” (Arts and Crafts School) in Massalombarda, learning different drawing, engraving, painting and sculpting techniques. From 1971 he works as a pottery technician in Sassuolo di Modena, leaving paintings and paintbrushes aside. In 1978 he decides to give a drastic shift to his life and together with his wife buys a small abandoned property in the Chianti region where he moves, starting a harsh but gratifying life period. For 18 years Sangiorgi tries to bring back the beauty of the old house and land, starting a handcraft activity of small pottery objects that he still produces. For the last years he lives in Serre di Rapolano in the house named “Il Cancello” (The Gate) where he finds motivation to restart painting and sculpting. His paintings show a strong link to Tuscany, its landscapes and people, as well as his evolved artistic soul.
